Manchester United deal stalls because Chelsea still own Jose Mourinho's name

Jose Mourinho is set to be joined at Manchester United by the core of his backroom staff who have followed the Portuguese coach from job to job for the last 14 years.

Jose Morais joined Mourinho's staff at Inter after Andre Villas-Boas left to manage Academica and was sacked by Chelsea along with Faria and Louro in December.

Mourinho won the UEFA Cup and Champions League as well as the domestic double twice in his two seasons at Porto and led Chelsea to their first top-flight title in 50 years in his first campaign, retaining it the following season.

While Louis Van Gaal has jetted out of Manchester having had his fate sealed on Monday, assistant Ryan Giggs's future looks uncertain at the club where he has spent nearly 30 years.

A failure to include this back then may result in the slightly weird situation whereby United would either need to pay Chelsea a licence fee in order to use the Mourinho trademarks going forward, or offer to purchase the trademarks outright from Chelsea.

Mourinho called the Red Devils a "monster club" last October and midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is excited by his impending arrival.

However, Ronald De Boer, who played under van Gaal at Ajax before joining him at Barcelona where Mourinho was working as an assistant, says Mourinho can be just as conservative and acerbic as van Gaal. "He knows how the club works", Scholes said.

Sources close to Gary Neville suggest the England coach and former United defender would not be interested in returning to club as part of Mourinho's backroom team, but the incoming boss is sure to want to bring in his own men.

You get the picture.

However, the duration of Mourinho's contract and his salary have reportedly been agreed between United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes.

"We all thought Van Gaal was a good fit two years ago and it didn't quite happen for him".

"We don't know who will be our new manager yet, but it looks like it's going to be an interesting derby in Manchester next season", the Germany captain said, with Pep Guardiola arriving at the Etihad Stadium.
