Clinton campaign declines invitation to California debate

"There is so much more that unites us than divides us". So what does America think?

Sanders' platform team consists of Cornel West, an African-American scholar and frequent Obama critic; Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus; environmental activist and author Bill McKibben; James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute; and Native American activist Deborah Parker.

Hillary Clinton can not put away a heretofore marginal, self-declared socialist. "It is powerful, it is palpable and the folks of Arkansas really understood that about him - that he genuinely cared". She bested Sanders with 47 percent of respondents to his 33 percent.

The Republicans' ideological about-face is even more pronounced.

On Monday, Trump posted a video on Instagram that featured audio of three women who had accused the former president of sexual misconduct.

Bernie Sanders' campaign manager clarified his comment that the Democratic convention would be "messy", saying that Sanders meant that a heated debate was possible. Some will stay home.

She leads Sanders by 10 points in Real Clear Politics' California polling average. In the Rust Belt, the appeal is to middle- and working-class voters who have suffered economic and social dislocation. It takes 2,383 delegates to win the Democratic nomination.

Sanders added that "democracy is messy", and "if you want everything to be quiet and orderly and allow, you know, things to proceed without debate, that is not what democracy is about".

Or will they lick their wounds and get behind Clinton, a candidate they largely don't trust because of her perceived coziness to the Wall Street establishment that they rail against? California has more Democratic delegates than any other state, and Sanders has invested heavily there. She is seeking to blunt the inroads that Trump has been making with voters in crucial states such as the Florida and Ohio.

The Clinton counterstrategy is based on the global demographics.

She was particularly strong with middle-aged women and Hispanics, while Sanders drew support from men and young people. "The Clintons will have more money, and that's a huge advantage".

The Democratic primaries are now in a two-week break.

But there's one wild card: events - unforeseen, unforeseeable, yet near inevitable.

There is still plenty of room for things to get very contentious - it's unclear how the negotiations over the platform will go, and there are some upcoming state conventions, including one this Saturday in Wyoming, where repeats of what happened in Nevada are possible. In September 2008, the financial collapse cemented Obama's victory when he, the novice, reacted far more calmly and steadily than did John McCain, the veteran. Most of the delegates were elected at the state GOP convention in Pasco last week, where supporters of Cruz dominated.

A candidate with the tactical acuity to successfully deploy such breathtaking, bigotry-tinged cynicism is not to be trifled with.

Clinton has won 23 states, while Sanders prevailed in 20.
