West Ham needs favor from Man United for Europa League spot

West Ham were without Dimitri Payet for Sunday's Barclays Premier League match at Stoke due to the playmaker having suffered a foot injury.

Before losing to Swansea City last weekend, West Ham still had an outside chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

The Potters are coming off a 1-2 defeat in the hands of Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park last Saturday, their sixth consecutive winless effort and fourth loss in their last six outings, as reported by BBC Sport.

What will make West Ham supporters want to attack Manchester United team bus prior to a game will be hard to comprehend. "I said to the guys at half-time if it had been basketball we would be 15 to 20 points clear".

Michail Antonio put West Ham ahead after 22 minutes, firing in on the turn after a Manuel Lanzini corner, but wasted opportunities proved costly as Stoke battled back after the interval.

- All five of Mame Biram Diouf's Premier League goals this season have been headers.

Nevertheless, the Hammers had chances to quickly regain the lead as first Given and then Glenn Whelan produced last-ditch goal-line clearances when set pieces caused Stoke more problems, while Emmanuel Emenike should have done better with a close range header.

For Stoke, it was a first win in seven matches.

"It started off with us getting here, and the fans were all singing our names and stuff like that, and it's been a great feeling so hopefully we can finish this and get home". We should have been more than one goal up with the chances we created.

"It is very frustrating", said manager Slaven Bilic.

"It was just one of those games that makes you really frustrated".

He said: "I'm pleased because we have consistently been in the top half all season and that is how we see ourselves".

"We're disappointed we haven't been able to finish the season strongly, as we know we usually do, but there are reasons behind that", Hughes told the club's magazine #pottersmag. But the other half of me can't be unhappy because of the way we played.

"Of course we are not proud of it but we are not about to be blamed for it".

"I am disappointed. It's hard to take because we were the better team for the majority of the game but we didn't take our chances".
