Dhawan stars in ,Sunrisers win

Indian Premier League 2016 Match 37 Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad — Preview

Shikhar Dhawan hit an unbeaten 47 as Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Gujarat Lions by five wickets in their Indian Premier League clash at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.

Ashish Nehra bowls his first over. However, Vijay Shankar, fielding in place of Dhawan, took an absolute stunner of a catch at the edge of the deep square leg fence to send Bravo packing.

Kumar struck in his second over picking up the wicket of Dwayne Smith with an outswinger which was caught safely by Mustafizur at short third man.

Nehra followed that maiden with another, puzzling Brendon McCullum with a mix of balls swinging into him and balls that went with the angle across him.

Today is the encounter between the Sunrisers Hyderabad, a team which stands at the fifth place on the IPL points table and the Gujarat Lions, who are comfortably sitting at the second spot.

Suresh Raina injected urgency into Lions' innings when he slogged Nehra and Bhuvneshwar for sixes in successive overs, but he only lasted 10 balls, consumed by the tendency of the ball to stop on this pitch. The Aussie powerhouse kept one end anchored and took Gujarat from a proper crisis at 25/3 in the 6th over, with 3 of their batsmen back in the stable, to a respectable total of 126 with his 42-ball 51. The conditions encouraged swing, and Dwayne Smith couldn't put bat to the first four balls of the match. Finch was dropped by Warner off Henriques when he was on 31 and it was his score that gave Gujarat bowlers some runs to bowl with. Kane Williamson then took a brilliant one-handed catch at gully to dismiss Dinesh Karthik off Mustafizur.

Chasing a modest 129-run target, the host began on a rollicking note when in-form David Warner and Dhawan slammed 26 runs in the first three overs.

For GL, Dwayne Bravo and Dhawal Kulkarni picked up two wickets each, while Praveen Kumar chipped in with a wicket. The pressure eventually resulted in Henriques edging a Bravo (2-14) delivery to the wicket-keeper.

The build-up to the match was dominated by the return of Yuvraj Singh, making his IPL debut for the Hyderabad franchise.

Sunrisers Hyderabad returned to the cricket ground after a week-long break and they had some good news for the Hyderabad crowd. Deepak Hooda was out in the 18th over but Dhawan remained till the end to take his side home.

Dhawan accelerated the score in the slog overs and pushed the home team to a win, which ought to have come much earlier.

With the win, Hyderabad have moved closer to top three.
