A Puerto Rico state police officer was detained after killing three fellow officers in Ponce, the island's second most populous city, the state police force wrote on Twitter on Monday. Police told the AP that the department was evacuated as authorities searched the suspect's auto for explosive devices. The suspect was in custody, though his name was not immediately released.

A Puerto Rico policeman shot dead two high-ranking officers and a policewoman this morning following an argument at the station where they worked, authorities said.

Officials confirm three victims according to Univision: Frank Román, 49; Luz M. Soto, 49; and Rosario Hernández de Hoyo, 42.

At around 9:30 am on Monday, Valencia said, Candelario arrived at police headquarters in Ponce and asked for a meeting with personnel supervisors. "Our condolences for the families", Associate Superintendent Juan Rodriguez Davila said, as translated by CNN.

The suspect was arrested following the shooting. "He rarely had any time off", Cruz said of Roman. Roman was named Commander of the Year for Ponce in 2014.

The newspaper said Candelario Rivera wanted to return to his former job as a patrol officer, according to those sources. "They were always supportive of their coworkers".

Alejandro Garcia Padilla criticized the United States government for changing its position about Puerto Rico's status. This includes the preparation of derivative works of, or the incorporation of such content intoother works.
