Bill Cosby Has Been Charged With Sexual Assault In 2004 Accusation

A NOV. 6 2014 FILE

In a transcript of Bill Cosby's deposition in the Constand case, reported by the New York Times in July, Cosby acknowledged reaching into Constand's trousers and fondling her but his advances were not objected to by the alleged victim, who claims to have been drugged at the time.

Today's charges stem from the victim's account of the incident, which was similar to those of other accusers.

It is the second time there has been an investigation into Ms Constand's complaint against the actor, who won acclaim for playing a family doctor and model father in The Cosby Show.

However, Cosby did not admit to any criminal activity in the documents; the deposition was taken as part of a lawsuit filed by Constand, who said Cosby molested her. The lawsuit was settled out of court.

Steele announces a charge of aggravated indecent assault against Bill Cosby at a press conference on December 30, 2015 in Norristown, Pennsylvania.

In testimony in 2005, which became public this year, Cosby said he bought Quaaludes, a sedative, in order to give them to women with whom he wanted to have sex.

The actor has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in relation to the allegations. At the time, prosecutors declined to press charges. The case was given a new look after a federal judge in July unsealed court papers in the civil suit, and prosecutors pointed to new evidence as well as information from other alleged victims as motivating factors in bringing the case. Some incidents involved only "rough kissing" or "forced contact", while other allegations are more severe.

Earlier this month he opened a lawsuit against seven of the women, accusing them of defamation. He said in his 2005 deposition that he gave Constand only three half-pills of Benadryl, an over-the-counter allergy medication.

The accusations against Cosby have led television networks to back away from projects connected to him, and several universities have stripped him of honorary degrees.

"I think Andrea is a liar and I know she's a liar because I was there". She said he told her the pills would help her "relax". And I don't feel her say anything.

Constand "came to consider Mr. Cosby her mentor and her friend", according to Steele. And so I continue and I go into the area that is somewhere between permission and rejection.

Prosecutors said Cosby used wine and drugs to render her incapable of resistance after "the much younger, athletic" Constand blocked two previous sexual advances.

Some 44 years later, in 2008, the most recent accuser, Chloe Goins, said that she was drugged and assaulted at a party.

Cosby's fall has been especially painful to many blacks who regarded his commercial and cultural success with great pride. "It does add a creepy subtext and a shadow of tremendous moral weight that will inevitably be brought up each time his name is evoked".
