Arsene Wenger: Arsenal belief strong after Man City win

Theo Walcott left says Arsenal's players have the belief to win the Barclays Premier League

Arsenal's Per Mertesacker, Theo Walcott and Mathieu Flamini celebrate at the end of the match in Greece on December 9, 2015.

In English Premier League, Manchester City travelled to the Emirates stadium to take on Arsenal on Monday with both teams looking to close the 5 point gap on surprise leaders Leicester City.

"That is our thought and that is why we implement them into games sometimes, but we are still unsafe on the counter attack and that makes us a real threat".

Suggesting the key to success, Mertesacker called on his side to stop thinking and start putting the plan into action.

The Gunners now sit second on the table, two points behind Leicester City, having recorded 36 points from 17 matches prior to Christmas.

But former England goalkeeper Seaman is adamant another win over a top-four rival will give the Gunners a much-needed confidence boost as they aim to claim their first league crown since 2004.

Wenger's Arsenal teams have bossed the possession statistics over the past 15 years of the Premier League and have enjoyed relative success playing that way.

"We believe in ourselves", Ozil told Sky Sports.

"When you look at their team, they have the potential to be a very strong team".

"We are very far from winning the title because it's not a sprint, it's a marathon". We have a bit more maturity in the side now, which you could see in the game when we were under pressure and dealt with it.

He said: "I think personally I don't like that managers come out so early - it's not so good for their own team or for others who are going through a hard patch. For the Christmas period, don't count him...He was planned to be on the bench [against Manchester City] but he is so keen that he got a little pain and we didn't take a gamble at all". "But if we stay where we are until March or April, then we have the chance to win the league".

"We face the next challenge on Saturday (against Southampton)".
